How can Sweden secure industrial competitiveness through resilient value chains? This was the central question when Business Sweden hosted a high-level panel at #Almedalen2025. We gathered leaders from industry and government to explore how to build resilience in key sectors and future-poof Sweden's role as an industrial frontrunner in times of global uncertainty - while also strengthening the EU’s overall competitiveness. Key insights from each sector: Automotive (Mattias Johansson, Volvo Cars): Strength: 100 years of transformation and world-class innovation Need: Access to critical materials, predictable policies, continued electrification support Life Sciences (Anders Persson, AstraZeneca): Strength: Global production hub - 40% of AZ's volume from Södertälje, 5% of Sweden's exports Need: Enhanced R&D tax credits, IP protection, competitive EU regulation Food/Agriculture (Lars-Gunnar Edh, Lantmännen): Strength: Potential export success story with sustainable, high-quality production Need: Turn SEK 80bn trade deficit into competitive advantage, reduce regulatory risk Energy (Henrik Thorsen, Siemens Energy): Strength: 100+ years of technology leadership with global footprint Need: Flagship demonstration projects, policy stability, talent attraction Policy (State Secretary Håkan Jevrell): EU must balance industry protection with free trade. Sweden advocates for targeted measures that preserve global value chains. Sweden's superpower: Collaboration between authorities, industry, and institutions. Sweden's new industrial strategy outlines our path to strengthen resilience, innovation, and strategic autonomy in a changing global environment. Thank you to our excellent panelists including moderator Anna Liberg, Jaani Heinonen, and Anna Hammarberg, Business Sweden. How can we strengthen Sweden’s energy footprint in Southeast Asia? During Almedalen last week, Business Sweden had the pleasure of hosting a roundtable that brought together key stakeholders to discuss the question. State Secretary Maja Lundbäck participated alongside representatives from ABB, Hitachi Energy, NKT, Siemens Energy, and Svenska kraftnät. Sweden’s strategy for Trade, Investment and Global Competitiveness has a strong focus on Asia. Swedish companies value Southeast Asia as growth engine for both export and decarbonization, and the energy sector is leading the trend. Something that was reinforced during the Swedish state visit to Singapore in 2024 and marked by the signing of a bilateral MoU on energy collaboration. Thank you to the participants for contributing to a meaningful discussion! Interested in exploring business opportunities in Southeast Asia? Get in touch with us today: https://brnw.ch/21wTOja

When global trade in goods dampens, services continue to silently gain momentum. Our latest report “The invisible exports” takes you behind the scenes of Sweden’s exports of services – a growing yet often overlooked engine of the Swedish economy. “The continued upswing for global trade in services has largely flown under the radar. We can observe that Sweden stands strong with a 1.3 per cent share of global exports of services, with digital services as our signature strength,” says Lena Sellgren, Chief Economist at Business Sweden.
